How to Clean Your RV

Hitting the road cross-country in your RV is an enjoyable way to travel, but it isn’t without responsibility. Thoroughly cleaning your RV twice per year (along with performing regular maintenance) helps preserve the paint and generally keep it good shape. Learn how to clean your RV with these tips.

  • Wash your RV from the top down, starting by cleaning the vent covers on the roof with hot water, dish detergent and soft bristled brush on an extension pole. Do not use dish detergent anywhere else on the vehicle because it’s too harsh. white and blue bus on road during daytime
  • Wash the sides, top, front and back of the vehicle with a specially formulated RV cleaner. Adding one-third of a cup of white vinegar to your wash bucket helps boost the cleaner. Pressure washers are great for removing dirt, grime and bug guts.
  • Use a pressure washer to clean the undercarriage and tires as well. If need be, use a stiff brush to scrub steps, landing jacks, stabilizers, slide rails, suspension part and more. You may wish to clean the wheels with soap and water.
  • Use a rag or an old (but clean!) sock to wipe the windows with glass cleaner. You can then use that rag to wipe off the blinds as well. This is a great time to apply rubber conditioner to window seals and slide out seals.
  • Waxing your RV helps prevent bugs and other road grime from sticking to your baby, especially the front of the vehicle. Visit your local RV supply retailer to learn more about which type of wax is right for your RV.
  • Always use cotton washing cloths. Polyester and microfiber can damage the vehicle’s finish over time
Apart from flushing the holding tanks when they are two-thirds full, you should clean them out every year as well. Black water tanks will need to be treated with an enzyme-based chemical treatment to help break down solid waste.

Protect your RV year-round. Call Berger Briggs Insurance at 281-848-2009 for more information on Houston, TX RV insurance.
